Antiracism Performance Art and Monologue
Lead: Micah Johnson
Dr. Johnson is an artist activist who created a book, audio play and theatre show entitled “Never Had a Friend”. These creative works use poetic and theatrical devices to discuss racism, trauma, poverty, and friendship. Never Had a Friend provides deeper insights into the tragedies and triumphs of poor Black children in disadvantaged environments. Dr. Johnson’s dream is to create a major production of the “Never Had a Friend” monologue. This initiative is ideal for organizations and businesses that are in the arts and entertainment industries who are interested in supporting antiracist creative works.
STOMP Laboratory
Lead: Micah Johnson
Dr. Johnson is also the founder of the Study of Teen Opioid Misuse and Prevention (STOMP) Laboratory training program for gifted future investigators from underrepresented minority and disadvantaged backgrounds. The purpose of the STOMP lab is to create a pipeline of highly trained Black and minority researchers who focus on racial health disparities. Over 90% of trainees who complete the program have been admitted into a graduate school or medical school. Dr. Johnson’s dream is to transform the STOMP lab into a multi university training program. He is currently writing funding proposals to NIH so that the STOMP lab can survive. This initiative is ideal for organizations and businesses who are interested in recruiting, mentoring and training Black students and supporting research on health disparities that impact Black communities.
Antiracist and Antiracism Training
Lead: Micah Johnson
Dr. Johnson trains, speaks, and teaches internationally on antiracism. Dr. Johnson has trained and advised the Office of the Federal Public Defender, several police departments and other law enforcement entities. Dr. Johnson regularly conducts talks on antiracism for community organizations. For example, Dr. Johnson has trained and advised the River Phoenix Center for Peacebuilding for five years, helping to launch its antiracism programs. This initiative is ideal for organizations and businesses who are interested in receiving and supporting antiracist pedagogy and training.
Police Youth Dialogues
Lead: Micah Johnson (Second author, Jeffery Weisberg)
Dr. Johnson is the lead author on a book entitled “Police Youth Dialogues” to be released in the fall of 2020 or early spring of 2021. The book examines historical trauma, inequalities in the criminal justice system and other factors that contribute to the tensions between law enforcement entities and Black communities. The book discusses the systemic issues that led to the death of George Floyd and many others, and it offers paths toward justice and peace. This initiative is ideal for organizations and businesses who are interested in supporting antiracist content, pedagogy and training.
